I spent several years in corporate compliance where my job was making sure a regulated firm could evidence - not just claim - that their controls worked. I saw how rigorous compliance unlocked millions in capital funding for multiple clients.I started Kilele because I kept meeting brilliant social founders that have been rejected by funders for reasons they often couldn't name: a missing conflicts register, a reserves policy that doesn't align with the funder's research or a safeguarding policy without a review date.
None of it impossible to fix but all invisible when you're working hard on your social mission.Large banks and national funders want to invest in grassroots, community-led programmes but they can't ignore the regulatory gaps in their structure.I'm not a lawyer, an auditor or a fundraiser. I'm the person that makes sure when a funder looks at your governance, they find what they're looking for.

Resolving complex legacy data risk:

The brief: An entity discovered that historical personal data of former employees had been mistakenly retained in legacy systems; threatening their GDPR compliance and creating a sizeable reputational vulnerability to data breaches.The challenge: Over the years of operating, outdated systems had stored personal data beyond regulatory limits. Nobody in the existing team understood how the old systems had been set up.The solution: Beginning with discovery to map the size of legacy data and complexity of historical setup, so the system could be upgraded safely. We created a Data Retention and Disposal framework that aligned with strict regulatory bodies and internal IT policies.The impact: The new feature passed compliance testing and soon integrated into company software. Legacy data was securely disposed of and clear documentation established to limit future risk.

Repairing financial integrity and audit readiness:

The brief: A large funding entity identified a critical system monitoring oversight where capital was allocated without mandatory managerial approval, as per internal policy. This gap created high-risk for conflicts of interest or financial abuse to go undetectedThe challenge: Discovery phase included multiple sensitive records: client entertainment receipts, client details, invoicing details and live business information.The solution:We identified the exact points of system failure and performed a backdated review of spending that should have been directed to managers. We established the client's risk tolerance and delivered the final review of instances of suspicious spending.The impact:The organisation successfully fulfilled statutory disclosure obligations with zero regulatory exposure and internal controls were enhanced.
